Who would have believed?
How wonderful to see so many KVGG members on the site! Maybe it was the rain yesterday that kept us all inside with no gardening to do?
Let's hope that we use this site to ask about those tickly garden problems, swap plants (remember those bulbs from Barbara Woodney) and alert each other to open gardens, garden fairs, new books and articles etc
My first one: "The Lost Gardens of Sydney" at the Museum of Sydney till 30th November, 2008. Heather Kelly gave me the brochure for this, it is based on a book by Colleen Morris $49.95. It is "an entreaty for Sydney [and I say KV] to cherish its heritage and to ensure the creation of new gardens that can provide pleasure and inspiration for generations to come". Has anyone seen it yet? Is it worth a visit to the dreaded metropolis? Lee

Re: A big welcome
Isn't this brilliant! Well done to Pamela for organising it.
Have no answer to your query but thought i woud give the posting a try!
No gardening to do? I don't believe it! If anyone should find themselves in such a position and wishes to rectify it then i am the person to contact (like immediately). scope is wide and varied, tasks are too numerous to list (don't want to put anyone off) training given on the job,(promise i won't be bossy) pay is zilch but i'll make sure you leave knowing you are a true hero!

Re: A big welcome
I am sure that is appealing to some out there - trouble is we all would welcome these 'volunteers'. Speaking of which, I have a WOOFER coming next week for a little while - a girl from a permaculture farm near Gympie in Q. Hope she enjoys herself in the valley and also lends a hand as my garden is so overrun with weeds ATM. I am spreading newspaper (an edition thick) and cardboard when I can get it and then rice straw but it is hard work. I am going to get a ute load of euchy mulch for the paths and under a table where I do not have things planted as roses are so susceptible to this when it has not broken down. Being a WOOFER host costs $50 a year and it is possible to 'share' WOOFERS among other people who have registered as a host (cannot 'share' without as the young person's insurance is dependent on their host being registered). You provide a place to bed, three meals a day and social interaction with a young visitor in return for 4-6 hours work a day. Eleanor 'shared' a young WOOFER from France for a few days with me and that worked very well - he raked my new horse arena and levelled it out and we laid a few metres of turf on the sides in patches.
Wish this rain would go somewhere else! Like inland.
